I recently purchased an E-Trex mainly due to the low cost of the unit. I am very happy with my purchase. I am surprised at the strength and believes it is a bit more training capacity that some other GPS handhelds I’ve used. I want GPS capability with a terrain tracking error because I am a hobby pilot, but the latest software version (first half 2007) the condition of your position relative to the length between two points on the map which can be used to correct the error slopes.
I look at the missing keys would be found to be frustrating, but it is not the case, as are the menus to be logical and concise. Alphanumeric entry via drop-down menus that allow you to quickly select numbers and letters at the entrance waypoint. Up to 500 waypoint entries and names are combinations of six numbers and letters and they are many to choose from limited icons. You can quickly mark your current location as a waypoint by any of the buttons for one second. It has all the usual formats NAV and measurements can be displayed in water (including knots), Statute (yards not included) and Metric.
I walk through the bushes and trees dense enough, and did well tend to follow the satellites. There are a few brief occasions when it lost signal expected in a particularly dense coverage (with a relatively small internal antenna), but recovered in about ten seconds in a light blanket. I would not recommend the GPS compass function in dense cover, because they have difficulties, the information obtained under News in low lying areas have satellite coverage. I am not disappointed with his performance in dense bush, and as someone who knows will know with units with small antennas, it’s just something you live with. I was with a magnetic stirrer in particularly dense areas where I have lived bad, and it is recommended to use the navigation on a magnetic compass and map in conjunction with your GPS compass anyway. In the light and open cover I routinely get 8 meters accuracy, and sometimes up to an accuracy of 5 meters. If I do outside near my last reattach usually gets a lock in 10 seconds. It supports
accuracy on the passenger seat of the car and even better on the scoreboard. There is a good representation of the speed, position, distance and time to be going well on the big screen and the backlighting is very good. It has a nice rubberized casing and this makes it ideal to put in vertical position between the dash and carpet windshield corner support, as I am.
I decided to download the actual data cable Garmin was too expensive and did my own lead cannibalized from a cell phone charger. Transfer of the last free Garmin software revision (mine came with v1. 2005) was a breeze and I was very impressed by how easy it is to update was. The new software has some nice features worth. I have a few shareware utilities such as “GARtrip” and “GPSutility” waypoints from scanned paper maps and street directories charge, and you can edit, upload and download waypoints using the information and info length. It is obviously faster waypoint info from your computer keyboard to edit and upload new items in seconds. It has a non-volatile memory so that the batteries, but no danger of losing your stored data.
disappointments Only a few small. It is very difficult to tell if the backlight in bright sunlight, and because it turns on and off by pressing the power button, you can accidentally press the battery and waste. You can not scroll the map around, you can zoom in and see. It is therefore difficult to review your itinerary recorded in detail and you need to zoom out and lose definition to see too much of your journey. It is cluttered with waypoint info, zoom out if you try to view your entire route, but you can disable the display waypoint. Abstract
, it is a gem of a compact GPS with a large screen and for the price I think it represents excellent value. Do not cause loss of data or buy from Garmin, as shareware computer utilities are cool. Two thumbs up.

Very handy size: about as small as my Nokia phone and a little shorter. Great to use for shirt pocket. I’ll throw in my backpack, when hunting deer.
display is proportionally low: 1 4.1 2 1 / 4 inch. But
not know if you want is your current position, your current position and the way back to the tent, it will work.
antenna is small: pocket, even a lightweight sail or shirt, there are costumes. No provision for external antenna.
barometer altimeter function / is nice.
complaint buttons on sites instead of the front / top is stupid. It is designed to operate only one hand. There are only five keys, after all, and everything can be achieved very easily. Same
the complaint on the life of the battery. 2 AA batteries provide 20 hours or so, 15 if the backlight a lot. Must be a few spare parts, put it in a battery saving mode, switch off when not in use for long periods, etc. There is a GPS FIVE oz . Get a Life.
If you navigate your way to go to the Dry Tortugas or try to find new customers in a foreign city, you want something more difficult.
But if you’re a hunter, a hiker / climber, bicycle accessories, or just a little fun, inexpensive unit that you can carry in your pocket or shirt pocket, then it is a beautiful device.

For price and size is a product 5 stars. Compared to many more hosts Pricer, it can be a 3 star. The market is very competitive and the removal of selective availability list military coding on May 1 need you to take the plunge and buy one. The eTrex shows the accuracy of 11-20 meters in general. In some forests of pines about 60 feet. Put yourself in the bottom of a ravine in the forest, and you have to spend, say, five minutes from your GPS to 100 feet for precision. It will not work for surveyors, but you will get back to where you just run fine. Again, the main reason for the success of the brand of military precision available to all of us. By the way THANK YOU. This device is a very reasonable entry some problems with the eTrex GPS: 1) are not in a simple card, and you can not download topographic maps of quality about it. 2) Smaller size means smaller antennas, and its reception in the canyons timber is low. 3) No external antenna connector, when in your car. 4) have no built-in compass Capabilty when you use a camp like the most similar Garmin Summit “model that will be published shortly. (The summit costs about twice as much). You really need to use a quality compass with him. But, as you know, is not Repace GPS with map and compass, but they increase much. But for your money, which is a unit GEaT bit.

I bought a Garmin eTrex yellow a year ago. My main reason for buying it was because I learned about the sport called “geocaching” and, knowing little about these devices so I bought one on the advice of some friends. I used to come and drive for about five months, some conclusions / br> I will first list the yellow eTrex good points:
It’s cheap – you can find the cheapest GPS receivers.
find – It is easy – you can buy a target, or just about any sporting goods store.
– It is sustainable. You can submit multiple times, or diving into the water, and there is still work (the first to dry before using again the attempt).
– It has an interface connection to download the new firmware and the PC download geocaching waypoints, if you have the need for this.
serve – it’s simple and very intuitive for beginners.
Now, its disadvantages. Clear that I am evaluating this unit in anticipation of a Geocacher, and we are probably the most demanding users of GPS receivers out there:
– It s does not act out of a device when you try to get a final barrier to a waypoint in the 50 ‘are at your destination. Once in the general search area, the signal will probably bounce back and give you very different interpretations. For example, if you entered a waypoint and get less than 50 ‘in your search area, expect readings of 50-50 feet bouncing with every step to find. I have this device in a different area, among the different tree shrub cover / under different weather clouds / and at different temperatures, with the same result. I was able to obtain more than two samples of this unit, and these tests have suggested the same results, so I suspect that my eTrex is not only a sampling error of these beneficiaries. Update software for the receiver did nothing to help accuracy.
Admittedly, my experience with this camera probably will not matter that much to most people that the unit tasks like shopping, you can find your way around the site, hunting and hiking. For those who use this device works well. However, if you are a Geocacher and want a GPS unit that your goal effectively locate, without bouncing your readings of 50-50 feet, once you go two steps in each direction, you will be a GPS device who has the skills, WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System). I now have a GPS receiver, WAAS, and it offers a large locking stable when in the area of my desired goal.
In short, I found this unit to be frustrating to use for geocaching. There are other GPS devices, the most stable signal lock offers for Garmin eTrex almost the same price.

The eTrex is a very good GPS for males. It is not, however, include many functions: compass, speedometer, Storage waypoint system and a base map showing your waypoints. The device is ideal for camping and all outdoor activities, you only need a point to point navigation. The unit itself is very solid, very small, waterproof (up to 30 feet) and will last about 20 hours with only 2 AA batteries. amazing technology these days!
Remember, the card from the camera that does not include all the information (i. e towns, roads, etc.) that your waypoints, you enter. Want a GPS with a detailed mapping system (towns, roads, shorelines, etc. .. to get) the Emap and GPS III +. Most III is the top range outdoors, while the EAP GPS primarily for the conduct made by his great capacity for storing data.
Global eTrex: Excellent for the money, fun to use, simple but not very practical.
