I still own my Garmin 10th It is a wireless Bluetooth GPS for Pocket PC / laptop. This product is so great, I decided to stay with Garmin. This leads me to the 60Cx.
The biggest con of this device is that the cards are very simple. Notice all product images 60Cx will say it in small print with optional MapSource data showed. ” This could be hiking, but bearable is terrible for the automotive industry. You need more detailed maps that can run over $ 100 purchase.
Additional features such as information on sunrise and sunset, or fishing / hunting conditions are very convienent. This device is really a dream for all those who love the GPS functionality.
The color screen is also very nice. In full sun, I could see clearly. The brightness of the screen is a perfect level for night use. It is not too bright nor too dark.
The controls are sometimes awkward, but I suppose that you use to get it. The sensitivity is great! I never have signal in my house with my 60Cx GPS signal picked 10th no problem.
My customizations:
Garmin City Select North America V6 was with my Garmin GPS I understand 10th have registered online unit. For the Garmin website, I could generate a 2nd unlock code. I used this code installed Choose a city in North America v6 on my 60Cx. It’s funny that Garmin website does not mention that he was with City Select. My 60Cx now has detailed maps and additional features like the ability to search by address, which was not possible with basic maps of the 60Cx’s. I am also very pleased with the performance of the device. does not melt everything my Pocket PC and GPS-10. Once I installed the detailed maps, this device has been a dream GPS device. I used it in the car and walking. It will be great if I’m going to visit New York for the first time.
Conclusion: Overall, I think it is an excellent GPS device. It is built solid and water in this regard. Everything is great, except base maps terrible. You have to pay about $ 100 for detailed maps, but if you add up the total, it is still cheaper than my Pocket PC + GPS 10 Combo (about $ 640 for me). I think the 60Cx worth every penny.
EDIT: May 2006
60Cx I had for 3 months now. It’s always a wonderful institution. One thing I want to comment on battery life. I do not use ordinary alkaline batteries. I use rechargable Energizer, 2500mAh, and the trickle charge of 8 hours per session. I entered an address that is 2 hours from where I started. It follows my position, turn the estimated time til and estimated arrival time. When I arrived at my destination, the GPS battery was at half price. GPS will only last an average of 4-5 hours while on a road. It’s still very good compared to my Dell Axim + GPS 10 Combo. I do not know how long it will take, if you use it simple,
I was a little disappointed that Garmin does not explain how he came to 30 hours of battery life. They could say, 30 hours standby. />

I just received my 60Cx on Amazon, and after he is impressed by his pace, I am with him. I had the GPSMAP 60C and more, and makes comparisons between the two.
Garmin not kidding when they say, this receiver is sensitive. I can take at least 5 Satellites locks of my house, about 10 feet away from windows. I do not even know how it is possible, but it locks on and maintains its signal.
The navigation is great too. Do yourself a favor and get the City Select map, moreover, they are great. Very detailed. The processor seems even faster. The time to redraw the maps is fast, even if at maximum detail.
Bottom line, if you have a GPS unit a fantastic, perfect for rugged activities like hiking and geocaching is looking, and can also “Turn-road navigation by-turn with ease, then this is the GPS for you! Garmin has a great job with this thing! Buy now!

Finally a GPS that works like hell! Okay. . I confess, I’m still on my honeymoon with the Garmin Map 60Cx, but so far it has worked like a dream and has exceeded my expectations.
This device is very simple, intuitive, right to use the box. My biggest surprise was when I saw the camera is turned on for the first, and literally in a minute I had locked 6 satellites! (With 4 others on the way). I have to mention that with my previous 3 GPS units, I have to wait 10 to 20 minutes for a lock for at least 3 satellites. Also this card seems to block 60Cx and even buildings, keep trees, and obstacles (in my previous GPS frustrating to lose lock when I entered a forest or even standing next to a building). What makes the Map 60Cx a great pleasure to use. It initiates and stops immediately end, as it should. The screens are easy to read and interpret and it easily navigates through the pages with simple intuitive controls (with the menu Windows-like). Oh, and the color screen is great, very easy, even without seeing the backlight.
The difference between the Garmin GPS Map 60Cx and the Garmin GPS Map 60CSx 60CSx is that the construction of an electronic compass and barometric altimeter and it usually costs about $ 30 more than the 60Cx. I opted for the 60Cx (minus the compass and altimeter), since I already had those instruments at my watch, they were dismissed with GPS compass and GPS altimeter already supplied with the camera, and I noticed that the 60CSx compared with 18 hours of battery life, performance of the card 60Cx sips of up to 30 hours of battery life. Since the only difference between the two, both additional instruments (compass and altimeter), I can only assume that the power drain EXTA must be connected to them.
For the life of the battery, I did not either no problems. One of my reasons for buying this product because it is not an internal battery or owners. I needed a device that uses plain, easily accessible, easily replaceable alkaline batteries. The batteries are gradually lose their effectiveness over time (as another reviewer said, and because the GPS device). To me it is easier and more reliable to ask for 2 new Duracell as pop, what the load current maximum found on my battery (or pay up to $ 20 – $ 30 for some heavy exotic “EL-1078-4A” the battery when it dies). This principle applies to most electronics consumers. I while trying to avoid certain special battery used (even a CR123 at $ 5 each) or, worse, some owners of specific battery made just for the device.
Another essential feature that I was obliged water resistance. “I use my GPS in water and on to mention (no shine).
The base map is sufficient for my needs so far (hiking and geocaching), but anyway I’ll get the City Navigator software for directions when I travel. I have seen this software in use my friend’s GPS Map 60CSx ( Unity’s sister 60Cx) and despite the seemingly high additional costs, I think for what you get is a good deal is. Not only does it upgrade the unit in a highly effective turn by turn road navigator, but it also adds an interesting feature, the guide of the city restaurants, gas stations, can find hotels, and Starbucks.
, also had some experience repression and familiarity with the Code of California car, I should mention that the suction mount for accessories such as windshield illegal in the State of California. It is CVC 26708 (a).
5/20/08 UPDATE OF THE REVIEW:
Ok, I used this product for a year now, the honeymoon more… LOL …… and I love this product. It is beautiful beyond my expectations. First, it is indeed very robust. I have this unit has been dropped several times, abrasion of The case against the rocks because he accidentally improvised slam dunks in rivers and streams (seawater is not yet!), and he took the extreme freeze below 20 to 120 degrees of desert. Everything I can say is that she has endured all these wonderful abuse.
Second, is unity if the block map of North America and the cord from the car (lights the continuous display) mounted an excellent turn by turn driving GPS. Of course a bigger screen would be nice, but the GPS and directions work (with audible alerts), so I have no complaint. big advantage is that you can easily pick up and take the equipment with you, as it was designed to be portable, so that the greatest temptation for stealing cars.
Thirdly, To my delight, the installed base maps with the locations are international unit, I could use my GPS extensively while traveling abroad 1) ensuring that I could not “lost” and 2) keeping an automatic The updated continuously as travel log for me. It must be transformed into a wonderful added benefit of traveling with a good GPS device. Everywhere I went all the interesting places, every shop, every restaurant, every beautiful sight was correctly recorded and accurately, and when I got home and added the tracking log into my computer, I have a perfect travel journal of my journey. In addition, marking waypoints and actually labeling easy with this GPS and I have to do in measuring with gloved hands. If I hurry, I’d be just a set of “marker” and then come back later and labeled.
I burn through batteries at a uniform rate of 2 AA every 3 or 4 days (as I myself at night) power, which is fine with me to recharge boring or degrade battery performance to avoid.
Any negatives?
Well, I hope that instead of suspending all functions and waste of energy to me multiple and redundant visual and audible “pop-up warnings my “low battery” that just go ahead and try, operate with little power, which remains until I run out of energy. This is an annoying idiosyncrasy many small electronic devices like cell phones and iPods. I mean, I can not help but wonder how long these units could work if they do not spend their last breath of the power on the incessant warnings of low power.
I think I would have extended the non-slip rubber coating on the sides of the device as well. The time I had been in general simply because it slipped from my hand and hold on the sides.
Oh, the plastic belt clip did not last long refined in the field. Replacement clips are hard to obtain (and expensive). I finally had to opt for a solid nylon bag, military-grade web (designed for a simple smoke or flash bang grenades to keep).

There is no doubt that GPS technology has come a long way in the last decade. I bought this to replace my old Garmin eTrex – the 60Cx is vastly better tracking under trees, in mountain valleys, and with a faster processor. I use it mainly for walking, and it has become virtually impossible to lose. Even under the trees in a valley, with the device in my backpack, he never lost track of satellites and has never been greater than about 50 feet, up from the hike return.
So, what is the problem? Surprisingly, the Achilles heel of this mapping GPS is that there is simply no good maps for hiking backpack. Garmin Topo sold a set of cards, which is totally unacceptable to use any type of in-the-field. It lacks any kind of detail (for a cause vertical lines are contour lines 150 feet, and contains very few national forest trails or roads), and although it is nice to make your trip to download a map when you return home and see where you went, the card itself is virtually useless when hiking. Garmin is set a high resolution topographic map, but it covers only the national (not even the national forests). I live in Oregon, with thousands of miles of hiking trails, and only 1 place – Crater Lake – is available in high resoultion Garmin Topo. National Geographic has created a beautiful high-resolution map, but it is expensive and the cards can be loaded with a Magellan GPS, none of the Garmin. Same with a GPS / topo set by Delorme. This is a company which is of high resolution maps of 2 states – Washington and Colorado that matter – but they require the Garmin MapSource CD, and then another hundred dollars of public funds to start.
The lack of good topographic maps of high resoultion is totally incomprehensible, and – at least for the ride – the mapping feature that makes GPS totally useless. If I had to redo it, I think I would be one of the most recent, you can buy cheaper GPS devices, like maybe a new extrex. The extra money you paid for the mapping capability lost with this device, IMO, are good until at least the topographic maps are available (if they all do).

Okay. Here’s the deal. I am an avid user of Magellan during the last 3 years. I like my Magellan. I never liked the Garmin because of their awkward interface (buttons on the screen set to never feel me) and how the menu structure has been built.
However. . . . We are planning a 2000 mile trip from Utah to the Oregon coast. We needed something with expandable memory, so that we can download more than one card of the state at a time. My wife bought me a Magellan eXplorist 600 for Father’s Day. I forced myself to him for two days (and believe me, to use, it was torture). I could go on and why I returned.
What was I ordered to replace the GPSMAP 60Cx. Now, keep in mind that I am someone who turned to the dark side wanted.
I could not be happier with my decision.
I agree with most of the other comments on the lack of base maps and the additional cost of this unit ROCKS! It acquires satellites in seconds. It has an expandable memory. It has a color screen. It manages the caches. It auto-routes. It stores 1000 points. He SiRF Technology. It is a USB interface. It has a belt clip. It changes the display contrast in the night (automatically). He cut slices. . . It rolls. . . .
Side suddenly dark is not so dark!
This is a great unit, I would recommend to anyone.
