I bought because I am interested in the larger screen. We use it in an RV and we love to see us in a position to GPS. Not so easy with a 3rd type 5 “unit. Maggelan We already owned a unit and are satisfied, but wanted a larger display.
This unit is about the idea that the ‘display is very clear, it is easy to set up before a trip and did not down, that we do not like Bluetooth, MP3 player, etc. It is a GPS unit not Multi-purpose. Which is what I want. I like the functionality of lane change, which is almost enough for the new unit even be worthwhile. So far, it works correctly. The only drawback is that it does not work very long without 12V Stuck (30 min). I guess because of the large screen. But this is not really a problem, since we have connected all the time anyway. One feature that I love the little sucker, it takes much less dashboard / property window, our previous unit. We are a non-skid “mat” Most of the time, but you use the suction cup in the car and it is much more Easy to assemble.
I just wanted to do an update – We now have many more miles on it with this device. We had no problem with him, or too slow does not give us enough time to react another expert has found. And I often have a lot of time together because of the length of the MH and the car. We have no problems with routing. faith If there are many different models and companies, these things.
I have to give Amazon a plugin, too. I looked at Best Buy and other stores, they not even know this model existed. Amazon delivered and I received it within 18 hours. We had to stop another one days during the trip. It’s really good service.

This is my 5th GPS (4 Magellan and Garmin, most people) in the location and integrated into cars and I must say that it is almost perfect, it is now. I wanted to after my long last, a Magellan (Maestro 4040). I purchased a Magellan RoadMate 1475T and found it an improvement over 4040, but it took forever to start and get a signal, and a number of stupid things they did to control the display and therefore more difficult the marketing function has never spoken of me to drop him.
I saw 1700 and thought I had a chance because I always have a bigger screen to have wanted to surrounding streets. I’m so glad I sent the 1475T back, this unit is a great improvement over the 1475T! The screen is fantastic and supports the movement through the magnetic card reader, so close to you, then return to where you really are, or course.
I do not know about the AV video input, when I bought it, but what a bonus! I plug in my 3. 5mm AV cable (I have the Apple Store) and the display switches to the video (the image is stretched, but what-the-Heck). It will be great to use on long journeys. I would have bought for this function alone.
No Bluetooth (I could never do my job properly with the iPhone Bluetooth Magellan seems focused on Windows) or any other GPS add-ons, never seemed to work properly. I do not know if the 1475T or 1700 came the first, but the 1700 seems to have many properties of “good”, which had previously Magellan, those who step back for improvements on the 1475T. The spoken voice on the 1700 is good, old, and the 1475T voice was severely distorted, which I suppose is meant again. The 1700 has the old, easier to use screens and 1475T has additional options, such as “Local Info” icon, which is more confusing options that do not really tell you a little lead. Even the “Save” on the current situation on the 1475T does not work, but it works very well on the 1700th is a feature I use all the time, if you’re somewhere you realize quickly, you just press a few buttons and it is named and registered.
I have the 1700 for over one week of use, and it works great, locks on the GPS signal faster than any GPS I had literally a few seconds after the ignition device. With the big screen, it is much faster for me to enter information and navigate. The buttons are huge (and beautiful)! The sound is fantastic and 3D maps are better than the 1475T (probably) because the larger screen. In no time, you can sort further targets for multi-stop and travel. It is also much easier to add an address like the older Magellan and “Smart Cities” is a very necessary improvement works. The POI seem much faster than older models and are more easily added to Address Book. There are two side buttons that hold favorite easily add and easy to use.
Overall I like this unit, I’m probably going for that long a time. Before I could hardly wait to upgrade frustration.
The drawback: It is important to have a faster processor. Perhaps the big screen is more appropriate processor, but it may delay when typing on the keyboard to touch screen. It does not affect the actual navigation, it is only when you post an ad on things.
This is great! I would follow the advice of another reviewer and a first cutting board and see if you have the space. I just do my Windows and it works really tight fit. One major shortcoming is being assembled for me the window. This is the worst I had up Magellan. In the past, they were very nice to 4040 was a fantastic mountain, but the 1700 is really too small, they have known and those in product testing. Even if you just get used for recreational vehicles or trucks, I do not see how the mountain can be moved far from the window to get it out of the cradle. It uses a ball that can not be sufficiently tight to prevent flicker too. I’ll have to buy the mount option, Magellan, the same frame, but they should be saved and used for the 4040th Mountain is the biggest disappointment of this acquisition.
The specific objectives are as bad as they always are. Since I have never seen a brand that has exactly the ones I think they should stop trying to count them. Only half of my post offices are listed, none of my favorite (to appear, but all the Starbucks, there are correct), and it lists the companies that closed several years ago. If you want, POI, I think you need to buy a smartphone, and they look when you need it, and enter the addresses. Gas stations and hotels seems to be exactly on a trip and would be useful until they are as outdated. Even Google Maps is not correct about things, so I do not think it is unexpected that a unit of months ago that was made is not correct.
In addition, all Magellan shows I had to be something behind you, wherever you are. Since it has always been so, through many models, and they never changed, so I need to believe they do it on purpose. This can be very frustrating when the roads are really close together and you do not know if you turn is good. If you are stopped at an intersection, it shows you the back yards. I think they should add an option that would move 10 meters on each playing card. However, the chime and it is just what I have most of the screen. When it rings, I know the next turn is. The close-up function, it worked well, it focuses on a lathe and draw an arrow on the map that helps.
Overall, this GPS is the best, I never had and buy it again in the second. There is room for improvement but all features that I really counted, not optional things that never seems to work. And the ad is FANTASTIC!
For those who have problems with AV input, you have the correct cable. Thrice Radio Shack has tried to sell me the wrong cable was one for audio. Only the Apple Store had the right and knew what I was talking about. Magellan should be an enhancement to their online store! You need to run cables under the 1700-sheet, if you start to ignore the 1700s attached to the cable, the AV and it goes to the GPS. Simply connect the AV cable in 1700 and will automatically switch to AV mode. You can access the volume controls from the ribbon on the screen. All this is not everywhere in the online documentation manual or manual. It is a great feature they seem to be ignored, it may be responsible or otherwise.
Magellan Please use the 1700s as a basis for future models and improving the windshield.

Compared to the TomTom, Magellan, this particular device is very simple. No MP3 player. No RF signal. No Bluetooth connection. No instant traffic report. No updates free card. No Bluetooth Remote Control. No variety of voices. In other words, the Magellan GPS is a simple but very functional, with a large high resolution screen. We have to TomTom for about 2 years and brought to Hawaii in June It was great, until he led us in a continuous loop in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor. Other than that, the TomTom is a lot for the money, but. . .
The Magellan is soooo much easier to see, b / c is much larger. The menus are easy to navigate (not so many endless optional parameters such as TomTom) and contains the AAA travel guide, we used the form of books for a year. Street names are easier to read that shows-on-a-brief entries for those of us who actually read the GPS while driving. The screen is bright enough to read well enough, even in bright sunlight, even through dark sunglasses. Not so the TomTom. Also I want the car back-and-night function to adjust the colors on the screen changes to night driving. And did I mention I love the big screen! I expect my wife a portable DVD player for Christmas and Magellan buys composite video taken at the player and we give two screens, if you want (but not while driving).
This is a salient feature, the Magellan comes with a windshield suction cup very functional, as one of those little books vise hobby you saw that the lever used to attach the suction cup really a table. This is necessary because the GPS is obviously heavier than smaller units. I am now convinced that he will keep the safety device after several trips.
The function of lane change should be mainly in foreign cities. And did I mention the big screen? Of course I did. BTW, the big screen does not have a number of drawbacks. For one thing, if you plan to use up on the windshield, you need to be installed as low as possible, since it does not interfere with. Mine is mounted so low that they are of the dashboard, which I see through him and slightly increases the vibration of the device, which comes on bumpy roads during assembly in this way can support. The other thing I fear is that written by a policeman in the great “thing” sitting on my dashboard because it (the silver color only in the back).
So I want to ditch the TomTom? No way. But when I’m not travel by plane to a remote destination (it is easier to pack, perhaps) and have the convenience of MP3 player, I’ll use the Magellan. It’s really convenient and more likely route as me. In this case, bigger really is better.

The were only used for one day and love it. Beautiful display, very intuitive, touch screen is very sensitive to touch, loud and clear and just the right amount, routing for the right to the very good so far. In the coming weeks I’m going to really squeeze a long journey across America (which I bought) and can tell you more.
A word of caution, however. The enormous. I knew it was big, I’m just not sure how large. I had a little problem fitting in my GMC truck conversion old because he had both houses of the windshield. When I installed it straight would have, as I do normally, it would have blocked too much of my sight. Completed some literally drill holes in the dashboard (old pickup truck, who cares?) And mounting there. So here’s my proposal. . . They cut a piece of cardboard the size of the unit is (I think its 7. 5 4. 3 inches) and take on your vehicle and how to practice in your field of vision / windshield. This is a very impressive, but it can not correct what may be around your vehicle.
UPDATE: After much use of this equipment in the last days, I found some bugs. First, the manual leaves something to be desired. I came across some of the functions of the device, which is a good thing, but there is no longer mentioned in the manual. Second, recognize, and no device is perfect, it went a little about me Bonkers yesterday while trying to deliver a state park, he told me to turn on a certain street on the left. When I said they go immediately to a turn, I just said to do another U-turn on! I found at the end of the park on my own four miles under the initial direction. Third, points of interest seem to be somewhat lacking. A search for grocery stores told me it was removed the next 5 miles. A block later, I was in a grocery store, which obviously gives him a number of years. Finally, I am a Garmin, a trip that used the summary screen. (Average speed, take the time, miles, etc.) If the Magellan has such a screen, I did not find. Oh, another thing. . . . If I deliberately did not tell me she has turned to take it recalculates a new route and not just something on my Goof. Not a word. I do not know, maybe a good feature!
However, as the unit and I am always happy with the purchase and would do it again, but the kind of honeymoon is over, so a downgrade from 5 to 4 stars .

I had the RoadMate 1470, and although it has a widescreen 4th 7 inches, it does not compared to 1700, size wise. Everything else is very similar. The 1700 (GPS) GPS is not perfect, but the combination of ease of use and screen size (an important factor for me) 5 star worthy in my opinion. I wish they had not included a battery contained in the device because it is worthless. We are talking 10 to 15 minutes before the device must be connected in.
