Garmin nuvi 550 Review
Garmin nuvi 550 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
The Garmin nuvi 550 is a good device in some ways: now many GPS navigations are ready for sale, and every brand has many models which come in huge advantage features. I’ll clarify why I mentioned Garmin nuvi 550 is a great but not a perfect by the following reasons.
Garmin nuvi 550 – Check Price!
TTS (Text-to-Speech)
TTS for me is truly irritating. I just need my GPS inform me where and when to turn right or turn left, and not to be anxious to spend special time looking off the street to insist the street signs.
More Navigation
This nuvi 550 could help you out more than only driving navigation. I journey, I stay overnight and I go to all country, not just North America. I extremely needed the variously usefulness that could navigate and locate my position on the main road, in the hillocks, off-road, and not only be able to search closest gas station.
Durability and Reliability
Garmin nuvi 550 is heavy-duty and faithful. About 9 hours’ life span of battery and watertight system are the characteristics that I wonder about it. My mini nuvi ever fallen twice (One on the stone, and another one drop out some stairways), but I’m cheery to tell that my nuvi is still working faultless. I’m not telling it’s ineradicable, but there’s the stable structure certainly.
Reception
Receiving satellite signal is excellent for this nuvi. Cloudless or cloudy even inside the building, I always have good reception. It has its quarks infrequently, however in conclusion the device locates me within 10′ radius. With the newest firmware update all position has been even more accurate, so it’s valued to do it as soon as you can. The upgrade also increases several of language selections and scooter mode.
Disadvantages
This model differs from nuvi 500 it doesn’t have local maps or nautical maps. It gave us only Canada, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and all of US maps but the other model can provide 48 lower states and local map. But the actual issue is it doesn’t have mapSource software. This software has many free of charge local maps (For example – Iraq maps that Garmin go off it) and can be found, but it’s unable to load. As the result of their own interface, mapSource is the best method to get benefits of all these resources. They have third person software available, however it’s very difficult thing to be usable. Another weakness is that it doesn’t have any case in the box.
Overall
Garmin nuvi 550 is still a great device worth every dollar even it lacks of software. In a daytime I could see very clear details at LCD display, sound is also very good – I could hear it although I turned on my radio and overall display screen was intelligent and easy to use. The unit is compact and lightweight; it’s comfortable to hold it to somewhere. I also like the truth that nuvi 550 has exchangeable batteries.
In long journey and can’t find the electricity for recharging, only take an extra batteries, and you will not stop short. Truly no need much time to learning it and efficiency is brilliant. Excellent unit, not be disappointed.
